What is so cool is that the images make themselves out of the back ground. Mystèle, what an incredible class. I am already game to start the next round ;)

This is another GUT ART production, perhaps my favorite. This is the first time I used palette knifes for painting. Very fun! They add a whole other dimension, not to mention texture. This one was inspired by the artwork of Michael Banks. His paintings are so imaginative and original. They all have a story to tell, like this one. His art has a naive quality and is full of truth, innocence, but also depth and simplicity.

A little bit of gut art...

This is an acrylic painting I did while in the wonderful workshop by Mystele Kirkeeng called GUT ART! I heartily reommend it! We get inspiration from the various virtual field trips she takes us on and from her own enlightened and fun techniques. It is also about fun and excavating your personal muse/artist ;) So this picture is of me and my sissies dancing under the full moon ;) It was inspired by the field trip of Pilar Rios' work, a beautiful Chilean artist who paints strong female figures, but without faces. I love it!

The month of September

calendar page

This is the month of September that I created for our artcalendar group. I absolutely loved the feel. I had prepared the backgrounds in May! Good thing because I was behind... and then used acrylic paint on stamps, cut out some dahlias from some beautiful fabric I got from joggles then edged them with painsticks. They turned out to be symphonies of color which made my heart sing :)

Little elemental

I love this darling little elemental... she is like a little ice fairy. She seems so pure and innocent, and yet so powerful... She too is made from a spool. At the base is a little stone bracelet that I have wrapped around. I love the giant white strawberry she is holding and the white velvet leaves that act as wings. Her adorable face comes from an Etsy vendor: alteredrevelations. She is clothed in blue silk ;)

Art angel with an attitude

This is my art angel with an attitude; I call her my love angel. She is really herself and won't put up with crap... although she is pure love ;) She is made from sticks I picked up on my walk and of pieces of material I had on hand. I just love her. She is also wearing a piece of rose quartz which makes her so loving ;) I cannot look at her and be in a bad mood. She just makes me smile. Hope she does you too! Her adorable face was purchased from an Etsy vendor, Linsart!

This is my little archangel Jophiel that sits on my shelf and brings peace to my office. She sports some interesting accessories and is made from a spool like the others. Here face comes from an Etsy vendor moldedmoonbeams... The star comes from my from Christina's great store, SKYBLUEPINK. She keeps the energy and vibrations up in my office and so I am so very grateful for her positive presence!

This is a box that I was inspired to turn into a little carrier house for one of my angels. It wraps around itself as has a magnetic closure. I collaged a napkin and other angelic relics to it and found the perfect sort of handle to ensure that the recipient opens the right side and does not destroy the box ;)

Spirit guide

Here is another spirit doll. This one is my spirit guide, Forrest. I am just getting to know him. I can call on him on my walks and he comes. I think he is full of magic and I look forward to learning from him. He is made out of branches and Bali batiks. I like how he is always looking up. I feel like he has thunder in him and a certain mightiness. But I also think with all that force, he holds a real gentleness as well. To tell you the tryth, I would rather have him working with me than against me!

The transformative spirit of joy

This little doll came together quite quickly. I love the colors. She is playful and infused with transformative power. She is made from fine silk, organza, velvet leaves, fibers and Bali batiks. She is emerging from magenta silk threads as she is being birthed into her creative powers, a sort of renaissance. She wants to dance and spread joy. And everytime I look at here I smile. She reflects the creative spirit.

The color of magenta is far reaching to include divinity, love, nurturing, learning. It can help people unite the forces of earthly skills with spirituality and let go of the past's heaviness to move forward It is great for balancing emotions and for cleansing emotional strain. Most of all, it is full of magic!

Spirit doll

This is a magical spirit doll that I made for a friend. I took my time collecting materials once I set the intention to make the doll. And they literally fell into my hands over a period of a couple months. I selected a root or perhaps it is a piece of vine that goes deep into the Earth but that also extends to the stars for the right part of her body. Then I attached these together with other sticks that called me. I used Bali batiks for her dress and leggings. Her necklace came from a friend's trip to South America and sports a little handmade medicine wheel.

Rainbow colored fibers circle her waist where she also wears a small medicine bag filled with some sweet smelling powder, a crystal and Milago of Mother Mary all for love and protection. The back of her head is a pine cone, which represents the pineal gland and third eye. I hesitated a long time before giving her a face and tried on many before I decided to make one. I like the way it turned out. I covered it in varnish to add years of wisdom to her. The red hair symbolizes independence and femininity, perfect for goddess energy. Our little spirit is bedecked with flowers - symbols of beauty, of beginnings, of being in the flow, love, feelings, etc.

There are many other symbols hidden in the little lady but basically her overall message is one of JOY, love and abundance and of dancing with Life and being in the flow!

These are the delightful power angels that have kept my muse inspired and busy these past few months. Each angel has her own personality. They are made from textile spools that I bought on ebay and so in the bottom of the angel there is a little place to put an intent, or little prayer. Each angel has her own special power stone or crystal and is empowered by a Reiki blessing. I have used my favorite fibers and textile ephemera on these to make them sing and fly! They were originally going to take flight at Christmas, but it looks like they preferred a Spring flight.

I love fabrics and sewing. I had fogotten how much I love working with fabric. It is such a fun medium and sewing such a delightful way of "gluing" things together! Here are a couple art quilts I made recently. One was for a tea friend and the other, well it is still unfinished, but I found the techinigue - random pieces of material - so freeing that I can't wait to do more!

Felt-beaded necklace

Here is a fun necklace I made out of felt beads, which I then beaded. The possibilities are endless! I think I may string them further apart however, and finish the ends with crochet - but first I have to learn how to crochet ;)

Love inspired art

This is little piece I made for my DH for our wedding anniversary. I wanted to do something with words and thought and thought... but could not find the right support. Then a good friend send me a lovely stash of delightful objects and this CD cover was one of them. It was exactly what I needed. I used markers for the outside. My hubby is a real flower child. And I wrote in my favorite lettering inside. He keeps it on his desk ;) which makes me happy, almost as happy as it made me to make it!

Fun book spreads

Here is a photo of one of the spreads I did recently for a group I am in. The directive was to work only in the margins so that the text was still visible. I tried to illustrate the little poem. The book was, A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson, a gem of a book. Some of the other work was gorgeous as well. Now I am scouting for a similar book that I can do the same to...

The above picture illustrates "Happy Thought" which I love... It is, "The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings." I love that little piece.

Here is another attempt at making a doll from recycled items. This vintage doll face is on an old vintage thread spindle. I love the colors... Her upper is a lovely piece of sari, she sports a wishbone as a necklace and is wearing a skirt made from fibers. She has a vintage ribbon wrapped around her

head holding a feather and is wearing a found wing from another artist's stash...

Blue belle back

This is the back view... while the front shows a yellow feather to give her a tom boy attitude, the back of her head is covered with blue and green fibers. Here you also see the book cover back embellished with hearts and flowers and her lovely skirt made from a vintage round peacock napkin! I love it. Underneath is a skirt made from a beautiful sheer embellished material from my stash that makes the skirt hang in a nice bouncy manner... Don't you just love her?

This is the base... the body is a knitting needle, as previously stated, with a handmade (by a friend) bead for a bit of shape that goes into a base, which is a thread spool with china mosaic glued to its sides and top, sitting on a baby CD for balance.... all in the tones of blue...

Recycled doll

This is Blue Belle... she is made from recycled and found materials. She had a difficult birth and has a completely remade head, but I am happy with her now.

From this photo, you can see that she has a ball of string for a head, and flower brads for her eyes and mouth.

Her body is a knitting needle She has a necklace made from found trim. A wonderful little book makes her upper body. I embellished this with old stamps, flowers and torn images... Her arms are made from a very cool piece of pleated material someone gave me. I wrapped it in the opposite direction as the pleats which gave it more body, then wrapped it with wire. There is also wire inside. It is difficult to see here, but her hands are cool hearts made from wire.

Here you can see the face. The mirror reflects back the divine self. On her right arm she is holding a $1M bill and on her left arm, a magic wand as I feel that being prosperous means we are tuned into our own flow of magic.

This is the floor shot. She has "small" feet, that will keep her in the moment, and not hurrying around left and right!

A word about what she is wearing; underneath, she is wearing a white silk, seamless dress with sequined Indian trim. White symbolizes learning, knowledge, longevity and simplicity, which are ingredients of prosperity for me. She is also wearing dominant green; green symbolizes harmony, balance, vigor, youth, and action. These are also ingredients for me, of prosperity. I also chose green because it is synonymous with lavish abundance, as in nature.

Here are some details . As you can tell, she is covered in "flowers". She also sports a clover as luck and prosperity are intimately entwined. Notice the ribbon of music notes. There is also a clock for "enough" time, a key for unlocking and learning to use inner resources, a moon for divine feminine and a heart and a love charm.

Here are some angels I made to get the year off to a good start. I think there cannot be too many angels around, can there? I love the colors and textures. Just a simple pattern with some cool fabric and embellishments and presto, they fly.

Happy 2009! Can't believe it is already here. I think it is going to be a good year. I know we have challenges to meet, but I think we will manage.

Here are some calendar pages I did with a group of 11 other women. I chose April, then swapped half way through with a friend for July. I will post the entire calendar once all pages have been received.

What a great way to mark the year...

When it came to July, I was ready for some warmer colors. I love the dark, warm colors that came out. I think I used Adirondack color washes and Moon Glow Glitz Spritz (medieval gold), then wiped with a baby wipe. I also love calligraphy and found some neat poems to embellish the pages with. I like to experiment so much I couldn't do all the same, though they do resemble each other, don't they?

Don't worry, I did not abbreviate the months. The pages were just bigger than my scanner so the last week got cut off. Imagine having shortened months. You think time goes fast now...!

I used several techniques actually. At first I wanted to use paper paint. That is to collage-paint with scraps of paper. I saw an article on this in Cloth, Paper, Scissors and wanted to try it out. But it took too long in fact. I like the effects and will go back to it but did not feel I could manage all 12 pages that way, so I continued with other forms of collage.

wand handle

This is the wand handle which I have wrapped in a pretty, multi-color yarn. The stick had a natural place for the hand, which was cool, and one reason I liked the stick. I added two additional charms -milagros - a rose and a bird for good measure.

Wand tip

This is the tip, like I said, I think I used a moonstone. I liked the natural tip formation of the stone. I have attached it with heavy gauge wire. It is silver in color, but it is not silver metal. I also attached a moon charm, a triangle with an eye, and a heart charm to enhance positive, good spells :)

Magic wand for swap

This is the full view of a magic wand I made for a 14 secrets swap. I loved this swap. It took me awhile to find the piece of wood. I went to the forest and parks, but found wood that was too old. Then, one day while out walking I came across a house. In front of it lay freshly cut branches from a fall trim for trash pick up, and I found a couple branches I liked. The trick was in making the wand simple enough. I took my first version apart, but am happy with this one. I don't know if you can see, but I randomly stamped spirals all over the body of the stick after having wiped it with walnut ink. The tip is a moonstone, which I chose for enhanced intuitive energy. Lady Moon

Meet Lady Moon, the goddess of intuition. I used a smaller tube for her. I used mulberry bark to substitute for arms. I like the movement in this doll as if she goes with the flow! I found just the perfect piece of material, which I think may be silk, to use as her dress. She also has a coat of mulberry paper underneath. You can especially see the movement from the back. She is wearing a necklace with a Ginkgo leaf (wisdom), and a pewter and antique gold drop (feelings). I didn't give her hands, because she doesn't really have arms either, rather the symbolize some nebulous energy. At the bottom is a velvet lear.

Following, you will see a back shot. She too has her head glued to a block, which is glued to the cardboard tube.

Lady Star

This is my star goddess, the muse of joy, a.k.a. Esther. Her spiral hands are holding up a net to catch light. She sparkles with life and shines in all circumstances. I have made her in glimmering materials. It is hard to see from this photo, but she has five points: the tip of her head, her two hands and the bottom of her dress. These all reach out and send and create joy, in the marvelous flow of life.

Lady Sun

Meet Lady Sun, the goddess of manifestation. She is clothed in luxurious hand made paper
and her wrap is lovely piece of mulberry bark in the most delicious colors. I sanded the frame, then gessoed it before applying Lumière and Byzantia paints. I then added a face I had in my stash, which I made a while back. The colors went so well with each other, I was pleasingly surprised.

Around her neck she is wearing a very cool necklace, which was long enough to also make her arms. I used a pipe cleaner and intertwined the necklace with it, then added a piece of heavy gauge wire so that the arms would hold straight out. Being the goddess of manifestation, I wanted her to look like she was reaching out or giving with her hands.

I have left her simple. She has some silk throwsters waste for hair, same luscious colors and a couple skelton leaves at her base. More details to follow.

Three icongraphic dolls

I had a great time with my muse creating these icongraphic dolls under the inspiration of Mai Liis Peacock.

I started with the small one. She has a moon face. Next I was playing around with the other faces and they all took on celestial bodies. So the front one is the moon, the goddess of intuition, the muse's best friend. She loves quiet. She is dancing.... Then, on her left is the sun or the goddess of manifestation, and lastly, Estelle, the star or goddess of joy.
